Parents Also Ask

What are phonological processes?

Phonological processes are predictable patterns children use to simplify adult speech. "Truck" → "tuck" (cluster reduction), "car" → "tar" (fronting). They're completely normal and most disappear by age 4-5.

When do phonological processes go away?

Most resolve by age 4-5. Early ones (reduplication, final consonant deletion) resolve by age 3. Later ones (cluster reduction, gliding) may persist until age 5. If patterns continue past expected ages, consider evaluation.
