Toddler App Cost Calculator

See the real cost of subscription vs one-time purchase apps over time.

Subscription fatigue is real. Two or three kids' app subscriptions at typical prices run $150–300 a year, every year. This calculator shows you the truth.

Prices for non–Little Wheels apps are the US App Store / official-site prices for the plan most parents actually buy, last checked July 30, 2026. Where an app sells a cheaper first year we use that, then the renewal price. Many apps offer multiple tiers and promos, so always check the current listing before you buy. For the market-wide picture, see our toddler app pricing statistics — a hand-verified audit of 34 popular apps.

What do toddler apps actually cost over five years?

A subscription’s monthly price hides what it costs to keep an app through a child’s toddler-to-school years. Same apps, five-year totals:

Five-year cost assumes a subscription is kept for five years, roughly a child’s toddler-through-school-start span. Little Wheels apps are free to download with a $4.99 one-time in-app purchase, so their five-year cost equals their day-one cost. Our pricing verified 2026-07-30. A blank cell means we have not re-checked that figure rather than that it is zero — competitor pricing changes, and we would rather leave a gap than publish a number we cannot stand behind.

Why Subscription Apps Add Up Fast

Most parents don't realize they're spending $300-500 per year on kids' app subscriptions. Here's why:

  • Free trials convert automatically - That 7-day trial becomes $15/month if you forget to cancel
  • Multiple kids = multiple subscriptions - ABCmouse charges per child in many cases
  • Prices increase yearly - What starts at $10/mo often becomes $15/mo within a year
  • In-app purchases add up - "Free" apps with locked content can cost $50+ to fully unlock

Little Wheels Philosophy:

I built Little Wheels with the $4.99 Subscription Liberation Fee because I hate subscription fatigue. Your moral stand against $70/year apps—own it forever, no tricks.

— Sean Record, Founder

Also available: Sleepy Train (Bedtime & Big Feelings)

Sleepy Train — on the App Store as “Sleepy Train: Calm Bedtime” — is the third app, focused on bedtime wind-down and naming big feelings. It sits alongside Talk & Listen and Create & Play with the same calm, ad-free, no-subscription philosophy, at the same $4.99 once.

This is the same space as bedtime and feelings apps like Moshi and other kids' mindfulness / SEL apps — but most of those live behind recurring subscriptions. Sleepy Train is the buy-once option, so families and daycares do not have to add another monthly fee just to support emotional regulation.

It's planned for 2025 and is not available yet, but I include it here so parents, SLPs, and teachers know a dedicated SEL option is coming in this space.

Ready to try it with a free 7-day trial?

Talk & Listen and Create & Play both include a 7-day free trial, then a $4.99 one-time purchase (own forever).
