Vehicle Sound Targets

Pick a sound. These are the vehicle names that practise it.

For the clinician. Generated from a published corpus of 100 vehicles covering 23 target sounds — download the CSV or read the method. This is a word-selection aid, not an assessment or a protocol, and it does not replace your own target list. Print it as-is; these notes will not appear.

Sounds with fewer than 4 vehicles are listed at the bottom as insufficient rather than padded out.

Using this at home

Your speech therapist has circled a sound above. These are words your child is likely to want to say anyway, which is the entire point — practice that happens because a child cares about trucks works better than practice that happens because an adult asked.

  • Say it, don't test it. Use the word yourself while you play. "Here comes the fire truck." You are giving a model, not requesting a performance.
  • Don't correct. If it comes out differently, say it again correctly in your next sentence and move on. Correction reliably produces fewer attempts, not clearer ones.
  • A few minutes beats a session. Three or four uses of the word while playing does more than a drill, and it does not cost anyone a fight.
  • Expect it to take longer than feels reasonable. A sound produced perfectly with your therapist takes weeks to appear in conversation. That gap is normal and is not a sign the practice is failing.

Sounds this corpus cannot support

Fewer than 4 vehicle names each: /dʒ/ (3), /kr/ (1), /ch/ (1), /ng/ (1), /w/ (1), /sh/ (1), /u/ (1). Vehicle vocabulary will not carry a target on this list — use your own word set.
